Aquaman 2 Begins Filming Next Year With WB Loving Jason Momoa’s Pitch

A visually stunning blockbuster, James Wan's Aquaman was a major success for Warner Brothers. Not only the DC Extended Universe entry enjoy great reviews from fans, but it also made it big at the box office, becoming the first film in the franchise to reach over $1 billion in the global box office market. Now, it looks like Warner Brothers is gearing up to work on Aquaman 2 next year.

According to a report by Esquire,Aquaman 2 is set to begin production sometime next year with Jason Momoa more actively involved with the creative team developing his second standalone DC movie.

"I came in with a big pitch," the actor told the entertainment news outlet. "I came in with the whole thing mapped out, and they loved it."

But that's not the only news Momoa has for fans. It seems like the actor actually signed a four-picture deal with Warner Brothers. That means fans can expect Arthur Curry for another DC movie after Aquaman 2.

"I signed that, what, five years ago? And they're like, ‘You're not doing anything? We're going to make you sign a four-picture deal,'" Momoa said. "Like, you're going to do all of those and they get you. You know what I mean?"

We can only imagine what the other movie might be. Meanwhile, for those hoping that James Wan returns for Aquaman 2, the director has already agreed to take on the sequel, though he has already signed on to direct another horror movie for Warner Brother's subsidiary, New Line Cinema.

Aquaman 2 is set for release on December 16, 2022.
