The Apothecary Diaries may have premiered a bit late, but it has quickly become one of this season’s highlights thanks to its intriguing story and beautiful visuals. Recently, the first Blu-ray volume of The Apothecary Diaries was revealed, and its cover is just as stunning as the anime.
Volume 1 of the anime’s Blu-ray was revealed on the official website and X (formerly Twitter) account. Instead of having a typical design, this Blu-ray has a removable case that makes it look like a classic tome.
The Apothecary Diaries’ First Blu-ray Volume Features a Beautiful Design
Animated by OLM (of Odd Taxi and Summer Time Rendering fame), The Apothecary Diaries premiered in late October. Instead of just one episode, the premiere featured the first three episodes for an hour-long special.
Many were instantly hooked thanks to its unique premise. After all, while there have been many anime set in Ancient China, The Apothecary Diaries features an interesting mix of medical mystery and court intrigue.
With the show’s first six episodes having been released, the show revealed the anime’s first Blu-ray volume.
Aside from detailing what fans can expect on the disc, the volume’s beautiful packaging was also highlighted.
With the anime being praised for its visuals, the show’s production spared no expense with the Blu-ray’s design. It features a removable cover in the style of an elegant book that frames Maomao in the middle.
Taking the cover off, you’ll see the case’s actual cover design, which features other characters, including Jinshi, Gaoshu, and Xiaolan.

The Apothecary Diaries Blu-ray Volume 1 to Release in January
Anime Blu-ray releases aren’t consistent when it comes to episode count per volume.
For instance, Bocchi the Rock! only has two episodes per volume. Meanwhile, Bleach: TYBW has all 13 episodes of Part 1 in Volume 1. Of course, the prices depend on how many episodes and bonus content each volume has.
For The Apothecary Diaries, the first volume will feature Episodes 1-6. Along with these, the volume will come with the creditless OP and ED, as well as clips from the anime’s advance screening in Japan.
Volume 1 is priced at JPY 14,300 (around USD 95), and it will be released in Japan on January 24, 2024. The first production run will come with a special booklet and a digipak.
As with most anime Blu-ray releases, this version will be released only in Japan.
