The new anime from OLM (of Odd Taxi fame) titled The Apothecary Diaries is another show with a lengthy premiere.
Story-wise, airing its first three episodes isn’t exactly needed to set up the premise, but it was a welcome one as it allowed viewers to enjoy the anime’s impressive visuals.
Following the three-episode premiere, lots of fans took to platforms like Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) to share their thoughts on the new anime. Much of the praise was for how beautiful the show’s art and animation were.
Aside from visuals, the series also got a lot of praise for its music by Evan Call (of Made in Abyss fame), which perfectly matched the anime’s visuals and story.
Speaking of the story, The Apothecary Diaries is also a dark horse contender of the season thanks to its intriguing and unique premise.

OLM’s New Anime Is a Compelling Mix of Mystery, Comedy, and Drama
The series follows Maomao, a pharmacist who is kidnapped and sold as a servant to the Imperial Palace of what seems to be Ancient China.
There, she uses her medical skills to solve a mysterious illness. This gets her the attention of a eunuch named Jinshi.
Soon, she becomes the servant of a courtesan, and she begins solving more mysteries in the palace.
It’s tough to pin down what genre the show is exactly. What can be said for certain is that it features a unique blend of mystery, comedy, and drama that makes for an engaging watch.
Even though the series is only three episodes into its run, it has shown to have all the makings of a modern classic.
Because of this, a lot of seasonal anime viewers are eagerly awaiting its next episode.
