Anthony Mackie Teases Sam and Bucky's Relationship in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier

There is little doubt that Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes will be forced to work together again in The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. After all, the upcoming Disney+ series is all about the two Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. But is it possible that they have finally worked their differences out? Anthony Mackie has revealed that there's some development in Sam and Bucky's relationship ... sort of.

Mackie recently spoke to Rotten Tomatoes TV while promoting Altered Carbon Season 2 and the conversation naturally led to some questions about The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. First, the Avengers: Endgame star explained that the new MCU shows will be very different from the films.

"These Disney+ shows are going to be very different than the movies," Mackie said. "You get the experience of being able to live with these characters for six and eight hours, instead of a two-hour movie where they have a small input on the overall universe."

Interestingly, all those episodes gave the actors a chance to truly explore the relationship between Sam and Bucky but not a lot has changed between them. "We really get to develop that relationship between the two of us, and you get to see it unfold. Because we were never really friends, and we still aren't really friends," Mackie said with a laugh.

We're not exactly surprised to hear this although we've been hoping that Sam and Bucky would eventually end up being buddies. Perhaps that's something to look forward on in the second season of the series.

The Falcon and The Winter Soldier is currently in production and is expected to air on Disney+ by August.
