Ant-Man's Paul Rudd on Martin Scorsese's MCU Comments: 'It's Not Just About Rides'

Martin Scorsese probably doesn't care, but his comments about Marvel films being theme parks have really sparked a discussion in Hollywood. A lot of people have been asked to comment on Scorsese's take, and the latest one to offer his opinion is Ant-Man star, Paul Rudd.

Talking to The Howard Stern Show, Rudd explains, "I think it is [cinema]. Ultimately you really care about relationships with people. It isn't all just special effects-driven, and action—whatever genre it falls in, you want to see people in human behavior and talking to each other… in Ant-Man I have a whole relationship with my daughter… so I think we're trying to deal with human issues and things that are relatable, not just rides."

Probably one of the harshest critiques of the MCU from the Scorsese camp has said that there isn't really anything "human" about the films, which some fans think is untrue. Though MCU films are still popcorn blockbusters, there are still some legit emotional beats that I personally think are authentic. You don't need a gritty, psychological character study in Ant-Man to make Rudd's portrayal as a father any less real.

If anything, a lot of people just agree to disagree with Scorsese. If you can just spin his message on a more optimistic tone, it basically asks people to ‘watch movies other than Marvel films.'

We don't know when Rudd's next appearance as Ant-Man will be onscreen, but you can catch him in a more grounded role in Living with Yourself now on Netflix.
