Ant-Man and The Wasp's Evangeline Lilly Almost Retired From Acting After Lost

Evangeline Lilly had had quite the career in Hollywood, starring in Lost, two Hobbit movies, and most recently, Ant-Man and The Wasp. Finally donning the superhero costume she should have worn in the first Ant-Man, it will be a treat seeing Lilly fly around in the suit as she beats up bad guys with Paul Rudd's Scott Lang.

It turns out that we almost didn't get that because Lilly was ready to retire after her work in Lost. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Lilly revealed that after Lost and Real Steel, she cut off all contact from Hollywood to concentrate on being a mother and writer for various books.

"I ended up deciding to retire after I finished Lost. I did a film called Real Steel with Hugh Jackman and then I walked away. I said, "I'm done, I'm never doing this again." I had a baby, I was writing scripts, I had a quiet little life, and two years later — and I mean, throughout those two years, I had no contact with Hollywood at all — I got a covert call from Peter Jackson, who I knew through my relationship with Dom[inic Monaghan] back in the day, and he said, "Nobody in Hollywood seems to be able to reach Evangeline, but we want to get a hold of her because we want to cast her in this film." And I was so torn because I had genuinely retired, I thought I was done, but I really wanted to do the movie. The little 13-year-old girl in me was like "I get to be a woodland elf? What?"

Two years after Real Steel, Lilly was eventually contacted by Peter Jackson who wanted her to star in the second Hobbit movie. While the role was a decisive one with fans of the source material, along with the whole Hobbit trilogy if we're being honest, she did fine in her role and it wouldn't take long before Marvel came knocking.

Many enjoyed seeing her in Ant-Man and were disappointed that she didn't end up in the Wasp costume. Until now at least, thanks to the recent release of Ant-Man and The Wasp. It seems like retirement is far from her mind these days, as she is now a vocal advocate for more female-led Marvel movies.
