Ant-Man and The Wasp Director Discusses the Duo's Trust Issues

Now that fans have been given time to let the events of Avengers: Infinity War sink in, they can now focus on July's Ant-Man and The Wasp. The second film starring Marvel's size-changing hero looks to expand on the first film and lives up to that ending by finally giving us Hope Van Dyne in her Wasp costume.

However, things aren't all fine and dandy for these two heroes. While it looks to be lighter than the traumatic events of Infinity War, director Peyton Reed has stated that things between the two heroes aren't as nice as they could be.

During an interview with ComicBook.com, Reed revealed that the relationship between Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne has been a bit strained since the first film. This is most likely due to Lang compromising their position when he joined Steve's team to take on Iron Man. Either way, the Sokovia Accords has not made life easy for either hero.

"Well, the movie is absolutely about Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne, and Hope becoming Wasp, and really at the beginning of our movie their relationship has some distance in it, and their relationship is a little fractured. It really is about whether these two people can come together and work together as heroes, and also as people. I think for Hope particularly, the question is out there: "Do I need this guy in my life? I'm a fully formed hero in my own right, do I need a partner?" That was really a fun kind of premise to start from."

The director also brings up Hope's doubts with Scott since she is pretty capable in her own right. This was pretty obvious in the first film and made more so in the trailers we've seen thus far. Still, with someone like Ghost coming for them, it looks like the two will have to work together for the greater good.

Ant-Man and The Wasp will hit theaters on July 6.
