Angela Bassett Receives Golden Globe Nomination for Black Panther 2

Today, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) announced the nominations for the 80th Annual Golden Globe Awards. A lot of major contenders this awards season were able to make it into the list while there were also some snubs and surprises in a true Golden Globe fashion.

However, MCU fans also have a reason to celebrate as Angela Bassett was revealed as one of the nominees in the Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture category for her performance as Queen Ramonda in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. This is her first major awards nomination this season.

Bassett will be competing with other actresses who also made it to the nominations list in the category such as Kerry Condon (The Banshees of Inisherin), Jamie Lee Curtis (Everything Everywhere All at Once), Dolly de Leon (Triangle of Sadness), and Carey Mulligan (She Said).

The film also received a nomination in the Best Original Song category for Rihanna's "Lift Me Up" where it will be competing against the songs from Where the Crawdads Sing, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio, Top Gun: Maverick, and RRR.

Unlike the first film, Wakanda Forever wasn't able to garner a nomination in the Best Picture (Drama) category. Despite the lack of recognition in the top prize, we can safely say that the film did well with the two nominations that they have and there's no doubt that they deserve both of them.

Now, the question is whether they will be able to win either one or both categories. It is hard to tell at the moment since the competitions are tough and there's a lot that they need to overcome in order to get that trophy. Even if they don't win, this is still an impressive recognition.

It would be interesting to see how it will perform in the rest of its awards season. If anything, this is an indication that the film will be getting some love and it's also good news for Bassett's potential second career Oscar nomination as she has solidified herself as one of the frontrunners in her category.
