News had recently come out that Andrew Lincoln would be leaving The Walking Dead 9 before the season even ends, but now we know that he won't even make it to the half point of the show.
According to Collider, Lincoln is only signed up to play Rick Grimes in the first six episodes of the season. After the fan outrage that ensued after the show decided to kill off Carl, we can only imagine the drop in ratings once the show decides to kill off the main character.
Lincoln isn't alone with his exit as well. Rumors have been going around that Lauren Cohan (Maggie) was also set to leave the show as well, and it looks like she'll be having the same episode count as Lincoln.
With Rick and Maggie gone, news has it that AMC is now courting Norman Reedus (Daryl) to be the new face of the show. Though dying characters is a common thing in The Walking Dead, I think it would be a completely different animal by the time they kill off Rick. I mean, after all, it's his story that we've been following all this time. Daryl isn't even part of the comics.
While some fans are sad to see Lincoln go, hopefully the showrunners have a nice farewell set for old Rick Grimes; shame that he couldn't make it to the very end.
The Walking Dead 9 is set to premiere on AMC sometime later this year.
