Following the success of the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem animated film, Paramount Pictures has green-lit a new feature-length project involving the heroic turtle quartet.

Paramount Pictures is decidedly happy with the outcome of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Mutant Mayhem animated film, which pleased fans with its several nods to popular culture, including Jujutsu Kaisen, The Avengers, Family Guy, and Demon Slayer.

Thanks to the success of the TMNT reboot film, which brought in $118.6 million at the box office, Paramount Pictures is turning its attention to another property in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles universe—the Last Ronin comic books, which came out between 2020 and 2022.

Published by IDW Comics, The Last Ronin is a revenge-driven narrative set in a futuristic New York. The grandson of the Shredder murdered Master Splinter and all but one of the Ninja Turtles. The surviving Ninja Turtle takes his brothers’ weapons and embarks on a quest for vengeance.

The comic book series is a distinct entry in the TMNT franchise. It lacks the jovial approach of the previous titles, adopting a darker tone and featuring a stellar body count.

Because of this, Paramount Pictures has tapped Walter Hamada’s 18 hz production house to produce and Tyler Burton Smith to write the feature film, which will also take a drastic turn by going the R-18 route.

Hamada is a former executive in charge of producing horror feature films for Warner Bros. at New Line, who established 18 hz after leaving the company. On the other hand, Smith is known for penning Child’s Play in 2019 and the R-rated action movie Boy Kills World.
