Amy Adams May Be Switching to Marvel from DC With Madame Web Role

It looks like there's a possibility that DC Extended Universe star Amy Adams may be making the switch to Marvel.

Last week, word came out that Sony was working on a secret Marvel movie together with veteran television director, S.J. Clarkson. Variety broke out the news, and though Sony refused to comment on the report, insiders close to the studio told the entertainment news outlet that there was a strong possibility that the movie would be based on Madame Web, a character tied to Spider-Man.

Now, it seems like Adams is in the studio's list of possible stars for the film. According to Variety, Sony is considering stars like Adams and Charlize Theron for the part – though nobody has committed or even met for the role just yet.

This is an interesting new detail for Sony's Madame Web movie. In Marvel comics, Madame Web is an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis who requires a life-support system that looks like a spider-web. Though Madame Web is featured as a mutant with psychic sensory powers that include clairvoyance, telepathy, her age, and medical condition have made it difficult to actively take on opponents in Marvel comics.

If Sony does decide to cast Adams or Theron, then it means that the studio may want to turn Madame Web into a younger comic book hero. That or the studio may be honing in on an origin story for the character.

Either way, we're excited to see Adams branch out and make her way over to Marvel.
