Amazon Spinoff Movie will Link Next 2 Wonder Woman Films

While DC fans are waiting on updates on a Green Lantern or Booster Gold movie, word has it that Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins wants to work on a spinoff centered on the Amazons of Themyscira. While we don't have any official update on the movie, Jenkins does tell us that a story is in place, and it will be connected to the main Wonder Woman franchise.

Talking to Geek Magazine (via Reddit), Jenkins explains:

"This is a story that Geoff Johns and I came up with and then introduced to Warner. The events of this story take place after Diana leaves Themyscira, the Island of the Amazons, and there are some twists and turns linked to what will happen between Wonder Woman 1984 and Wonder Woman 3. The production of the project has not yet officially started, but I hope we get it because I love this story."

For now, we don't really know who the story's central character could be, but some are expecting the film to focus on Connie Nielsen's character Hippolyta. If I were to make a guess, I would say that it would be based on a younger Amazon character, and it would focus more on the mythological figures that were referenced in the past films. No doubt Gal Gadot could probably make a cameo as well.

Until we get an official update, all we can really do is wait. I'm not really that sold on the idea of the project yet, but maybe when it's officially announced, I'll find out if I can get on board.

In the meantime, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to hit HBO Max on December 25.
