After its reveal earlier this year, the romance anime Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian finally revealed its April 2024 release date.

The show’s premiere was announced in a livestream program for the anime. Along with the release date, more details and promotional material for the show have been shared, including a special video and new visuals.

As the title implies, the show’s main heroine is of Russian descent. While her VA isn’t Russian, she is pretty much the perfect voice actress for the role.

Sumire Uesaka Stars as the Half-Russian Alisa Mikhailovna Kujou

As its title implies, Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian (or Roshidere as it’s also called) is a rom-com anime that follows Alisa, a half-Russian and half-Japanese high school girl.

Nicknamed Alya, she often makes flirtatious remarks to her seatmate, Masachika Kuze. Unbeknownst to Alya, Kuze can understand Russian.

Playing the role of Alya is the popular VA Sumire Uesaka. She is best known for voicing characters like Lum in the Urusei Yatsura remake, Nagatoro in Don’t Toy with Me, Miss Nagatoro, and Shalltear in Overlord.

Uesaka is the perfect VA for the role as she’s known for having a deep interest in Russian and the former Soviet Union culture. She’s even majored in the Russian language in school.

Joining Uesaka in the cast is Kohei Amasaki (Kosuke in Tomo-chan Is a Girl!) as Kuze, Wakana Maruoka (Sumire in My Clueless First Friend) as Yuki Suo, and Yukiyo Fujii (Himiko in Komi Can’t Communicate) as Masha.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian Reveals Release Date

Working on the anime is Doga Kobo, a studio that’s best known for its mega-hit series Oshi no Ko. The studio has also worked on other notable titles like My Senpai Is Annoying and Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie.

Doga Kobo's next rom-com anime is based on the light novel series of the same name. It was originally revealed to be in the works back in March.

During a recent livestream, a special “birthday video” was shared along with new key and character visuals. It may not be a proper trailer, but the video features its two main cast members playing their roles.

Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings in Russian is set to be released in April 2024, but it’s not confirmed yet which platform it will be streamed on outside of Japan.

There’s no info on a specific release date or an episode count. Based on other Doga Kobo titles, it’s likely that this anime will run for one cour.
