All of Us Are Dead remains the talk of the town with its incredible plotline and great visuals. However, some can’t help but see its similarities to the tragic Korean disaster, the Sewol Ferry tragedy.

A TikTok user made a side-by-side video to compare the similar scenes in All of Us Are Dead and the Sewol Ferry tragedy. Just like the hit Netflix series, the sinking of MV Sewol had claimed the lives of too many high school students.

The Similarities Between All of Us Are Dead, the Sewol Ferry Tragedy

The Sewol Ferry tragedy occurred in the early morning of April 16, 2014. The ferry was en route to Jeju from Incheon.

However, a tragic accident happened, and it caused the lives of 304 people, 250 of which were high school students from Danwon High School. The students were on a field trip at the time.

Eight years after that one fateful day, the event has been part of different cultural references, like All of Us Are Dead.

TikTok user @baejieun199 made a clip that showed the eerie similarities between the show and the real-life disaster, as shown by Koreaboo. The viral video first showed the Hyosan High School students filming themselves while waiting for their rescue.

This scene mirrored the real-life footage of the Danwon High School students, who also made a video record of themselves while waiting to be rescued. The kids could be seen joking around, believing the wrong information they got about the severity of the situation.

The TikTokerist also compared the scene where Nam-Ra (Cho Yi Hyun) and Le Su Hyeok (Park Solomon) tied themselves to each other to the report that the life jacket cords of two high schoolers, Kim Su Jin and Lee Jeong Jin, were found tied together.

Lastly, the yellow ribbons to commemorate the demise of the Hyosan High School students are similar to the real-life memorials held for the victims of the Sewol Ferry tragedy that becomes a “globally recognized symbol.”
