Alex Kurtzman Signs 5-Year Deal To Expand Star Trek TV franchise

The Star Trek television universe will continue to expand.

Today, CBS announced that Alex Kurtzman will continue to produce Star Trek TV series for CBS Television Studios until 2023. The extended agreement gives CBS Television Studios exclusive rights to all television projects produced by Kurtzman and his production company, Secret Hideout.

Secret HIdeout will also develop non-Star Trek programming for streaming, cable, and broadcast platforms.

CBS Television Studios President David Stapf said in a press release via Comicbook.com:

"There is a very short list of writer-producer-directors that every film and television studio wants to be associated with, and Alex and his Secret Hideout team are always at the top. His talent, taste and ability to shepherd a successful project is unparalleled. Alex has done remarkable work for our Studio, dating back seven years to the launch of Hawaii Five-0, and we are thrilled that he, Heather and their team will be partnering with us for a long time to come."

Kurtzman is the co-creator and executive producer of Star Trek: Discovery. He's also stepping in as the Discovery's showrunner after Aaron Harberts and Gretchen J. Berg stepped down from the series.

Season 1 of Star Trek: Discovery is available to stream on CBS All Access. Season 2 is currently in production in Toronto, Canada.
