Late last year, word came out that Lucasfilm was going to develop a Rogue One spinoff series featuring the adventures of Diego Luna's Captain Cassian Andor for Disney's upcoming streaming site, Disney+. Star Wars fans were surprised because they weren't expecting any other show after the studio announced that Iron Man director Jon Favreau was producing Star Wars: The Mandalorian for the Mickey Mouse House.
Now, Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy confirms the appearance of a fan-favorite character in the upcoming Star Wars series – Alan Tudyk's quippy droid, K-2SO. Ever since Lucasfilm announced the Rogue One spinoff prequel series, fans had been hoping to see K-2SO tag along with Cassian and his missions for the Rebellion.
Speaking in a previous interview with ComicBook.com, Tudyk talks about his return to Lucasfilm's galaxy far, far away, saying that he was more than excited to reprise his role and play alongside Luna.
"It's a prequel, so it is a prequel. I love those guys, I do. I love those guys," Tudyk told the entertainment news outlet, "Diego Luna is one of my favorite people on the planet. I know what they're doing, and it's very exciting. We talked about it."
Tudyk isn't the only one of course. Luna is also eager to return to the Star Wars franchise, hoping that fans are going to love the new series.
"Going back to the Star Wars universe is very special for me," Luna explained. "I have so many memories of the great work we did together and the relationships I made throughout the journey. We have a fantastic adventure ahead of us, and this new exciting format will give us the chance to explore this character more deeply."
Cassian and K2-SO had great chemistry in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. We can't wait to see them again in this new series.
Disney+ is set to launch sometime in November this year.
