Quinta Brunson, the show's creator, writer, and star, is aware that the standard has been raised for Abbott Elementary Season 2 and intends to exceed it. But initially, she hopes that fans would embrace Season 2 at a slower pace than they did in Season 1.

A More' Chill' Abbott Elementary Season 2

ABC has revived Abbott Elementary for a 22-episode second season, giving the main ensemble some breathing room. It will also allow the authors to introduce new supporting characters, new relatives of the main group, and glimpses into the ensemble's personal lives outside of Abbott.

In Season 1, Brunson and the rest of the Abbott cast got right to work. They demonstrated their mettle in a television environment when network comedies struggle to gain traction and viewers.

According to Brunson, "every single episode of the first 13 episodes, the goal was to show people what we can do, what a banger the show can be."

Fans were won over by Jeanine's sincere attempts to change things for her students as a consequence. They have remained because of the rest of the group, which consists of seasoned instructors Barbara Johnson (Ralph) and Melissa Schemmenti (Lisa Ann Walter), somewhat inept principal Ava Coleman (Janelle James), and new instructor and Janine's love interest Gregory Eddie (Tyler James Williams).

In many aspects, Brunson stated that Abbott Elementary Season 2 would be more of a classic sitcom.

"Now we've got episodes that are just chill," she said. "They have no real stakes. And I hope that audiences are OK with that."

Abbott Elementary's Emmy Wins

Brunson is the Abbott Elementary three-headed beast. She serves as the show's executive producer, writes many of the episodes, and plays second-grade teacher Janine Teagues. It didn't take her long in Season 1 to discover the appropriate tempo to keep viewers interested.

According to Variety, episodes averaged 8 million viewers across network and streaming platforms. And it was ABC's highest-rated new comedy since The Conners premiered in 2018.

According to IMDb, the first season of the show received 29 nominations in total. Seven Primetime Emmy nominations were among them, and the cast members won three golden statuettes. Sheryl Lee Ralph received the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Wendy O'Brien took home the prize for Outstanding Casting for a Comedy Series, and Brunson took home the prize for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.

The Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series did not go to Abbott. But after the other victories on the show, Brunson wasn't concerned about that. The group still has a lot to prove before being included in the pantheon of comedy brilliance, despite the early success, so they shouldn't get complacent.

Brunson and the rest of the group came back on set for a table read less than 24 hours after a night out at the Emmys to demonstrate their understanding.
