15 Halloween 2016 Game Events & Sales

Are you all set for the long weekend for Halloween? If you’re looking to spend some quality time with your favorite games, you may want to take note of which events are still ongoing, so you can best manage your time on which one you would want to pursue.

We’ve prepared a list of games on console, mobile, and PC that are celebrating Halloween in different and exciting ways. At the same time, for those who are looking for new games to play, we have four Halloween sale events in different online stores that you may want to check out.

It’s going to be a horror weekend—for your console and your wallet—but also great progress for some of your favorite games.

  1. Overwatch

It’s all about the last-minute grind to get more Loot Boxes in Overwatch’s Halloween Terror update.

Blizzard’s newest seasonal event will be ending once the clock strikes midnight this November. Before that happens, make sure you use the weekend to accumulate a lot of holiday items, go through the PvE mode Junkenstein’s Reventge, and just explore the haunted streets collecting jack-o-lantern boxes.

Remember, it’s worth the haul, if you want to get your hands in the 100 new cosmetic treats for this time-limited event and make them a permanent addition to your collection.

Or, if you have the credits, you can also use them to purchase the customization options, so you can already get what you want before the contents go back to the vault on Nov. 1.

  2. Pokemon Go

Instead of holing up at home this Halloween weekend, step outside and step up your game in Pokemon Go.

Niantic Labs has released a new update that’s been going on—and one that has, in fact, pushed back the app to the top of the charts. And that’s because the developer has been notably generous about the mons’ spawns in the game.

And they’re not just any Pokemon. Until Nov. 1, players can expect an influx of spooky ‘mons including Gastly, Haunter, Gengar, Drowzee, Hypno, Zubat, and Golbat. There are also a lot of bonus Candies from walking your Buddy, catching ‘mons, and even transferring them to the Professor.

And while we’re at it with generosity, Niantic Labs also has a nice surprise. Though it was unannounced, several fans have confirmed that Meowth, Cubone, and Marowak are also spawning like crazy, in the same way you would see Pidgeys and Rattatas almost everywhere.

After this event, it’s going to be so hard to go back to just the commons, so make sure you max out your Psychic and Ghost badges.

  3. The Simpsons Tapped Out: THOH 2016

Mobile game players who like building and city-designing titles may want to check out The Simpsons Tapped Out.

Currently, it’s featuring the Tree House of Horror 2016 event, the annual Halloween event that adds some spooky items and characters into your very own Springfield. The event is already in Act 2.

If you haven’t started on the event yet, there’s still a third Act coming to deliver a new character skin, from the looks of it. For long-time players, you can easily catch up, provided that you have quite the number of freemium characters in your game.

For beginners, this is a nice event to start off your adventure with The Simpsons Tapped Out. Don’t worry too much about completing everything, because it’s all about tapping the hell out of those monsters and growing your Springfield.

  4. GTA Online

Halloween has arrived in GTA Online, so it’s time to strike and spread fear with the new content coming to the game.

The LCC Sanctus roars at the frontline, with its menacing look screaming evil incarnate. Then there’s the Lost vs. Damned Adversary Mode, which pits Angels versus Devils in the same way it does the righteous against the vulgar. You’ll be seeing switches in day and night every 60 seconds, which could mean win or loss to a side.

For those who want some unlockable apparel, Rockstar also has you covered. There’s the Twilight Knife and the Butchery and Other Hobbies shirts, which are available until Nov. 7 just for logging in. For those who will add the Sanctus to their collection will get another additional shirt, the Cheerleader Massacre 3.

Available only on Monday, Oct. 31, there’s also a special Double GTA$ and RP Playlist with Slasher, Beast vs Slasher, and Come Out to Play modes.

  5. DC Universe Online

Super heroes and villains may look the part because of their recognizable costumes. But even the DC heroes need some time off to look the part of evil and horror incarnate, all thanks to The Witching Hour, DC Universe Online’s fall event.

The developer is offering creepy costumes on sale for 25% off. With the Game Update 64, fans can enjoy The Witching Hour, which also brings missions and events for players Level 10 and above. The season event also brings back the Survival Mode: Oan Sciencells, so you may want to give yourself an extra challenge during the weekend.

What’s different this time is that the mode will have new Exo Plants and Custom Exo Back for the even rounds, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.

Finally, the event will also feature New Vapor Aura variants and Spooky Bites, which are the season currency via the Marketplace. It’s time to let your DC super heroes and villains rest their cowls and weapons for the Halloween and take up a new mask for some tricks or treats.

  6. Injustice Gods Among Us Mobile

While we’re still waiting for more updates on what NetherRealm Studios is planning to release for Injustice 2’s mobile tie-in, the original Injustice Gods Among Us mobile game has recently received a new challenge in time for the spooky season.

This time, the character challenge is Blackest Night Hawkgirl. She’s a great addition to your roster if you want some creepy by kickass undead version of Shayera, all wrapped in blackest darkness.

She’s a force to be reckoned with, thanks to her ability, the Necrotic Lifeforce. Her passive is very helpful if your roster is backed to a corner. The passive gives Hawkgirl 15% of her health back when anyone in the battle is Knocked Out. But her passive is even more powerful if she is teamed with any Blackest Night character, because they will be revived with 20% health when they are Knocked Out.

Blackest Night Hawkgirl’s challenge will be available until Nov. 11, so make sure to add her to your roster before then.

  7. Destiny

Bungie has brought back Destiny’s Festival of the Lost. Some of the events include The Reef and the Iron Temple in the Tower, changes in the Crucible matches, and a lot of treats, masks, emotes, and more for the festival.

The good points about this year’s festivities is that some old masks are returning, so Guardians who failed to collect them last year can do so this round.

“Try new Consumables to gain the visage of a Jackolyte or spawn as an Engram. Alter your Bad Juju’s aura with new Ornaments. Bring your Ghost into the celebration with unique Festival shells. All this and more, available through the Eververse store.”

Sadly, one complaint that players have is the fact that the event appears to be pushing for more purchase to get the goods in the game. According to Forbes, Bungie has already removed last year’s system, where players use candy satchels through gameplay and cash them in for masks that can be transformed for permanent ones.

Destiny’s Festival of the Lost will be available for play until Nov. 8.

  8. Final Fantasy XIV

The All Saints’ Wake event for Final Fantasy XIV is already on is last leg this weekend, but these next few days are still a great way to enjoy a little scavenger hunt in the game.

“The Continental Circus has returned for another year of frightful fun. But to ensure their mischief does not turn to mayhem, an investigator from the Adventurers’ Guild seeks an assistant in his work. Seek him out to see how you can help.”

Participating in the event will require you to be Level 15, as well as completing the “It’s Probably Pirates” quest.

It will be quite the hunt for chests with very mission, and the exploration of dungeons has become even more fun with this new event.

  9. Gears of War 4

Gears of War 4 is doing its first special event, dubbed the Pumpkin Ball. This will bring some of the mechanics of Dodgeball with 1-second respawn times and reduced respawn protection, making for a very fast-paced undead experience.

Players can indulge in five of the dark maps in Gears of War 4, including Fallout, Forge, Harbor, Impact, and Lift. What’s more, Pumpkin Heads are back in the playlist.

Best of all, the event will bring the Halloween Elite Pack. Purchasing this special pack will give one card to be either Epic or Legendary, the latter of which will come from the Day of the Dead Legendary Collection. The Halloween Elite Pack will leave the store on Nov. 1.

  10. Street Fighter V

Capcom has turned a number of its roster fighters to this side of spooky for the season.

The good news here is that there’s no immediate rush to get everything Halloween-related in Street Fighter V, especially since there are a couple that are purchasable only by real money.

For players who want to know just how far their Fight Money can get them in the Halloween event.

There is a total of seven Premium Halloween costumes and a Halloween-themed Russia stage. Only the stage can be purchased by Fight Money (40K) apart from real-money purchases. All of the Premium Halloween costumes are available for $3.99. But the costumes also come with colors 1-10 options.

All of the Halloween content for Street Fighter V can be obtained until Nov. 29.

  11. Plants vs. Zombies Heroes

Halloween will never be complete without zombies. And if there’s a new game of the undead in town that you must try, it would have to be PopCap’s newest mobile title, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes.

The new game has recently landed on the iOS and Google Play Store. It offers a unique card collection game that will still let you put plants against zombies.

“Collect and choose from 20 unique Plant and Zombie Heroes and unlock their lawn-inspiring super powers. Will you pick Plants and deploy the masked, sharp-shooting avenger, Green Shadow? Or will you choose a Zombie Hero and call on the superbly superficial Super Brainz, Zomboss’s secret weapon with a powerful punch and fondness for hair gel? Each Hero’s selection of super powers will help determine your team’s winning strategy.”

Similar to other card games, Plants vs. Zombies Heroes will have you collecting and building your deck, a lot of which are familiar characters from the PvZ universe. It’s mostly about strategy, because you’ll also have to choose which side you want to fight on.

There’s also an adventure map that follows the specific team you are on. There will also be some bosses with powers, which would yield you great rewards once they taste defeat.

  12. Steam Halloween Sale

  15. Square Enix Spooky Sale

If you’re one of those who are on the edge of their seats waiting for the release of Final Fantasy XV, then you may want to check out some titles from Square Enix. The company is holding its Spooky sale over at the Square Enix Online store, and some games are discounted up to 83%.
