Will There Be a Season 2 of The Book of Boba Fett?

The Book of Boba Fett is the second live-action Star Wars TV show, following on from The Mandalorian, which has so far enjoyed two seasons, with a third on the way. But it won't be the last, as we can also expect Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka, and Andor across 2022 and 2023.

Disney and Lucasfilm have described The Book of Boba Fett as "The Mandalorian Season 2.5", which makes sense given the fact that it's set after The Mandalorian Season 2, and that it's bridging the gap between the second and third season.

The action-packed show stars Temuera Morrison as the titular bounty hunter, who also played Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) in George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy. Jango is the father of Boba Fett, who was then played by young actor Daniel Logan.

To no surprise, Morrison was asked to return to the faraway galaxy to play the iconic Boba Fett (who is a clone of Jango), whom fans had thought dead for decades, having last seen him fall into the dreaded sarlacc pit at the end of Star Wars: Episode (VI) - Return of the Jedi (1983).

But as we now know, Boba is not dead, and made his comeback in The Mandalorian Season 2 episode "Chapter 9: The Marshal", and his official return in the episode "Chapter 14: The Tragedy", in which he is finally reunited with his precious Mandalorian armor.

Now, Boba headlines his own show, having taken the throne from Bib Fortuna (who claimed it once his old master Jabba the Hutt was killed), and now trying to forge his own impression as ruler in the criminal underworld in Mos Espa on Tatooine.

But after spending a long time living with Tusken Raiders on Tatooine's Dune Sea, Boba Fett has softened, and as such, is repeatedly taken advantage of during his time as ruler on Tatooine. During the show, we've seen him encounter enemies of all shapes and sizes.

The Pyke Syndicate, The Twins, Black Krrsantan, the Assassins of the Night Wind, and more, have all tried to take on Boba Fett, but have failed. But luckily for Boba, he has a few allies too: Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), the "Mod Gang", and even a giant pet rancor.

While the show is yet to close, we've also seen him team up with gladiator-Wookiee Black Krrsantan, and more recently, it was suggested that the Mandalorian himself, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) will be making an appearance in either the penultimate episode or the finale - or both.

So while we've yet to see how the show will unfold, will there be a second season for The Book of Boba Fett? Is this a limited series or is a second season planned? Or, like most other TV shows, is a second season subject to the first season's success?

While it's difficult to judge whether or not The Book of Boba Fett Season 2 is actually going to happen, there are a fair few clues that suggest it's very possible. But first of all, where could the show go beyond the first season? Does Boba Fett have the same staying power as Mando?

We think it's very possible that we'll be seeing a second season, largely because the show has been hugely popular, despite not being as favorably received as The Mandalorian. Nevertheless, it would be a shame for the show not to continue.

The real question, though, is whether there's a story to tell. So far, The Book of Boba Fett has answered many questions about Boba, from how he survived the sarlacc in Return of the Jedi, to how he got his Starship back from Jabba's Palace.

It might all very well hang in the Season 1 finale, but on the other hand, we don't think Disney and Lucasfilm are done with the iconic bounty hunter just yet (though there's no official word from them on a Season 2 yet). After all, there are many more things they can do with the show, such as introducing other Star Wars characters.

One other show that comes to mind is Star Wars: The Bad Batch, which includes Clone Force 99 - Tech, Wrecker, Echo, Hunter, and Crosshair - all of whom resemble all the other clones in the Grand Army of the Republic, and of course Omega, who is actually Boba's sister.

As for Star Wars in film, on the other hand, it's rumored that actor Harrison Ford has returned to the faraway galaxy to shoot a one-off scene. Whether or not he'll be showing up in The Book of Boba Fett remains to be seen, but seeing as there are only two episodes left, this is unlikely.

After all, Han Solo hasn't even been remotely hinted at in the show, despite the fact that Boba probably blames him - among other people, such as his employers - for having fallen into the sarlacc. Not only that, but with Han being a smuggler, it's possible the two will eventually cross paths again.

With that said, we may get a secret ending, in which Han Solo could appear (de-aged, of course, just like Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker in The Mandalorian Season 2 finale "Chapter 16: The Rescue"). However, while possible, a secret ending wouldn't necessarily suggest a second season.

After all, The Mandalorian Season 2 finale's secret ending, which sees Boba Fett and Fennec Shand storm Jabba's Palace for a take-over, wasn't at all related to The Mandalorian Season 3. Either way, it may all very well hang in the end credits of The Book of Boba Fett.

There are many adventures yet for Boba Fett, but whether or not the show could sustain another six episodes or more in the criminal underworld of Tatooine remains to be seen. At the moment, it doesn't look like it has a territory beyond that of Mos Espa, unless Boba decides to give up the throne altogether.

Seeing characters such as Omega appear would certainly be an interesting move, and would allow Disney and Lucasfilm to flesh out the character of Boba Fett in ways never before seen. After all, while he did appear in Attack of the Clones, we're yet to see the meaning behind those flashbacks on Kamino.

Whatever happens, we hope that the first chapter in The Book of Boba Fett isn't the last.
