Will Cara Dune Be In The Mandalorian Season 3?

The Mandalorian Season 3 will be landing on Disney+ on March 1, and Star Wars fans couldn't be more excited. Forget The Book of Boba Fett (2021), forget Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022), and forget Andor (2022) - The Mandalorian is where it all started for the world of live-action Star Wars on the small screen! But while a number of beloved characters will be returning, will Cara Dune be in The Mandalorian Season 3?

It's been quite some time since Gina Carano was fired by Disney and Lucasfilm for sharing controversial tweets. When it happened, fans of The Mandalorian were devastated, as Cara Dune (Gina Carano) had quickly become a beloved character.

Cara Dune appeared throughout The Mandalorian Season 1 and The Mandalorian Season 2, and though she doesn't appear anywhere in either one of the two official trailers we've seen so far for Season 3, or anywhere in the show's official casting (which, of course, no one was expecting), fans are still wondering if the door has been left open for the character.

Unfortunately, there has been no word on Cara Dune whatsoever, although Disney and Lucasfilm did announce previously that there would be no plans to recast the character following Carano's exit. As such, it would be wise to expect Cara Dune to never return. But with that said, it remains entirely possible that she can be recast at some point in the future.

While it looks like Cara Dune definitely won't be showing up in The Mandalorian Season 3 - because we know full well that Disney and Lucasfilm would have included such a controversial recasting as part of the show's marketing - we refuse to believe that the door is closed on this beloved character forever.

After all, Star Wars fans do have the potential to separate the actor from the character. While that might sound like a bold statement coming from a franchise where actors like Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor have become synonymous with their Jedi counterparts, there are many characters in the faraway galaxy who have been played by more than one actor.

Take Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader, for example. While Hayden Christensen is often the first person to roll off our tongue when talking about the character, it's widely considered an act of blasphemy to not utter the words "James Earl Jones" in the same breath. And then there's Obi-Wan Kenobi, who's played by both Ewan McGregor and the late Alec Guinness in equal parts.

Sure, Cara Dune can hardly be compared to the likes of Darth Vader or Obi-Wan, but given time, her character could go on to become iconic. Just look at how Ahsoka Tano has turned out. The truth is that there are a number of actresses who could take over as Cara Dune, and it begs to question why Disney and Lucasfilm are sweeping the character under the carpet.

The reality, though, is that Cara Dune can easily be written out of the show. So easy, in fact, that she'll probably never be mentioned again. But here's to hoping that the door has been left open, just a crack...
