Will Bridgerton's Lady Whistledown Ever Appear On-Screen? Julie Andrews Responds

The hit Netflix series, Bridgerton, has been a breakout on the streaming service since its debut back in 2020, and continues to be one of the most hyped romance series given its ongoing status.

Based on the novel series bearing the same name written by Julia Quinn, each season follows a new Bridgerton sibling.

Bridgerton Season 1 followed the eldest of the sisters, Daphne’s love story with the Duke of Hastings, while Bridgerton Season 2 on the eldest brother and head of the family, Anthony, finding romance with Kate Sharma.

Now, amid this continuing series, one of the questions the series has yet to answer is whether we would ever see Julie Andrews, who voiced the town gossip Lady Whistledown, on screen.

“Oh, [the Lady Whistledown narration is] coming back. Oh definitely, yeah.” Andrews confirmed in a recent interview with ET.

Given that we have rarely heard Lady Whistledown in the last season, this encourages that Season 3 will be much fuller of the town gossip than Season 2.

However, in terms of ever seeing Andrews on the set of Bridgerton:

“No, no, no, [I won’t appear onscreen]. You know who Lady Whistledown really is, so I’m afraid it stays with me in the background.” Andrews added, “But I’m very happy to do that.”

While Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) may have been the real Lady Whistledown behind Andrews’ voice, a little recognition for the voice actress wouldn’t hurt.

After all, there’s a possibility Andrews will be doing the gig until the end of the series, which, if Netflix follows the order of the books, will end with Gregory, the youngest male Bridgerton sibling.

For now, Netflix is releasing Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story on May 4 this year.

The series is a prequel spin-off of the Bridgerton series following the Queen’s story before we revert to the Bridgertons in Season 3.

Bridgerton Season 3 has yet to confirm its release date, but is expected to return by the end of 2023 or early 2024. In the meantime, Bridgerton Seasons 1 and 2 are streaming on Netflix.
