As Disney and Marvel Studios pair up, a number of the installments for the Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe such as nine limited mini-series would be streaming on Disney+ and Black Widow will not be joining the Disney+ release as Disney is hopeful that theaters would open this year as the COVID-19 vaccine is underway. Disney announced the release of Black Widow in theaters and expects that audience would still show up even in the midst of the pandemic.

Disney would like to stick to the status quo for now and release the latest film of the MCU on theaters first before streaming it on Disney+. This pays homage to the theaters considering the losses it suffered during the pandemic and as Disney is one of the largest film production companies in the business, this move of Disney will greatly be appreciated in the industry.

This strategy of Disney would entice viewers, both in the comforts of their homes and the moviegoers in big theaters, to watch films wherever they choose. The only difference that it would make is that those going to the movie theaters would get a first look at the films they are going to release like that of Black Widow.

Black Widow will be set in between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity Warwhere Natasha Romanoff is running away from the consequences of the clash of the Avengers regarding the Sokovia Accords and she heads home to her family to reconcile with her past. She will be joining the Red Guardian, Yelena Belova, and Melina Vostokoff as they take on the Taskmaster who is responsible for the Red Room, the lingering red Natasha has left on her ledger. Considering that Natasha Romanoff died in the Avengers: Endgame to sacrifice herself for the soul stone, her own standalone film is expected to give her the send-off she deserves.

Black Widow will be released in theaters on May 7, 2021.
