Why Obi-Wan Kenobi Looks Like the Most Epic Star Wars Show Yet

Obi-Wan Kenobi (2022) will be hitting our screens in no time, and while there will only be six-parts (though there's no telling how long each part will be until the show starts streaming), it's set to be the most epic Star Wars TV show yet.

Check out the epic new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi below:

Obi-Wan Kenobi will follow the titular Jedi Knight 10 years after the tragic events of Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005) as he tries to survive in a galaxy ruled by the evil Galactic Empire.

While there will be scenes on Tatooine, given that Obi-Wan will be watching over Luke Skywalker as he grows up with his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, the trailers suggest that Obi-Wan will also be spending plenty of time off-world.

While many elements of the plot are understandably being kept under wraps, we know from the two official trailers that the show will revolve around the hunting of all remaining Jedi, with The Inquisitors hot on their tails.

The first trailer revealed The Grand Inquisitor (played by Rupert Friend), who previously appeared in the show Star Wars: Rebels (2014). In Obi-Wan Kenobi, he will be joined by Reva (Moses Ingram) and the Fifth Brother (Sung Kang).

Ewan McGregor reprises his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi, having played him in the entire prequel trilogy - Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) and Revenge of the Sith.

Hayden Christensen will also be reprising his role as Darth Vader, though it's possible he will also appear as a de-aged Anakin Skywalker in flashbacks. Either way, the second trailer confirms Vader's appearance at the very least.

As for whether or not any other well-known Star Wars character will be making an appearance in the show remains to be seen, but many fans are speculating that the show could feature Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) or even Grogu.

While Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 19 years before The Mandalorian, it could still feature one or both of these characters (just not on screen at the same time). But it's likely that characters from the prequel trilogy will appear instead.

This is likely where the focus will be. The Book of Boba Fett (2021) was already utilized as a teaser of sorts for The Mandalorian Season 3, and having Obi-Wan Kenobi turn out to be the same thing would just be lazy writing.

And this is why we think it's going to be the most epic Star Wars TV show yet - not only is it a sequel to both the prequel trilogy and Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV series (2008), it's also a pre-cursor to the original Star Wars trilogy.

We all know that Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guiness) is killed in Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977) during his duel with Darth Vader, but it doesn't really take away from the anticipation we have for the upcoming live-action show.

After all, Disney and Lucasfilm previously described the show as "the rematch of the century", hinting of course at a second battle between Obi-Wan and Darth Vader, with their first explosive duel having taken place in Revenge of the Sith.

Other things we're looking forward to beyond seeing other familiar faces and lightsaber duels is the return of Ewan McGregor himself. Despite the prequel trilogy's many problems, McGregor was never one of them.

While shows such as The Mandalorian (2019) and The Book of Boba Fett (2021) featured a de-aged Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), this time we'll be seeing a veteran Star Wars actor without the interference of movie magic.

We're probably more excited at seeing interaction between Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen than the inevitable Obi-Wan/Vader battle itself, as it's always thrilling to see a new Star Wars TV show cement itself into canon.

The show also looks to feature more worlds than we've seen in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett combined. Let's just hope we don't spend too much time on Tatooine - been there, got the tee-shirt.
