Spy x Family is on course to be not just one of the best comedy anime of 2022, but one of the best ever. The story of Loid creating a fake Forger family with Yor and Anya is incredibly entertaining, but there’s one area that isn’t as clear: why did Yor marry Loid?
While it’s clear to see the benefits of a fake family for both Loid and Anya, it’s less obvious with Yor. However, by looking closely at her character you can begin to understand her motives.

Why Did Yor Marry Loid?
Yor enters a fake marriage with Loid by accident, as he mistakingly blurts out that they’re married at a party. However, there are a few reasons why Yor decides to stay in the arrangement.
In the beginning, Yor is under pressure from multiple sides to get a boyfriend. Her co-workers warn her that she could look suspicious without a partner at her age, which Yor recognised could cause trouble with her work as an assassin.
Yor is also pressured about getting married by her brother, Yuri Briar. She lies and says she has a boyfriend and they are going to a party together, without knowing that Yuri has friends at the party and will hear back from them about this mystery partner.
Those events lead Yor to ask Loid to pretend to be her boyfriend. In turn, Loid asks her to be Anya’s fake mother for the Eden College admissions interviews.
That was all the plan was supposed to be at the start. However, when Loid accidentally says that he is Yor’s husband at the party, the two are somewhat forced to make their temporary arrangement more permanent.
However, the fake marriage is handy for Yor, also. With a husband, she is hopeful of stopping people from asking too many questions about her love life, allowing her to focus on her assassin work.

Does Yor Love Loid?
While it’s not been confirmed as love, Yor does develop a genuine romantic interest in Loid as the series progresses.
Very quickly, Yor settles into and enjoys her role as mother to Anya. She is also comfortable playing the role of Loid’s wife, although they don’t sleep in the same room at home.
There is the odd indication of romance early in the story, but it starts to become more serious when Loid’s co-worker Fiona Frost enters the fray.
Fiona Frost is a spy that was trained by Loid and has since fallen in love with him. She believes that she would make a better fake wife than Yor and tries to put herself between them.
When Fiona enters, Yor becomes jealous and challenges Loid on his interest in her, which seemed to indicate a romantic interest of her own. However, when Loid pushes Yor on that, she becomes flustered and avoids the issue.
As a result, we don’t know for certain that Yor loves Loid, but there’s definitely something there. We’ll just have to keep watching Spy x Family to see what happens!
