Watch the Planet of the Apes Movies Free: January 2022 Update

  • All 3 Planet of the Apes movies are available to rent or purchase on Amazon Video or YouTube Movies.

In a time where classic movies undergo the Hollywood knife on a regular basis, there are a fair few whose reboots are justified. But one reboot that broke the mould is Planet of the Apes. Based off the '60s-born franchise, the reimagined Apes trilogy isn't just one of the best remakes - it's one of the best movie trilogies of all time.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes (2011) stars James Franco and Jonathan Lithgow; Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2014), which stars Jason Clarke, Keri Russell, and Gary Oldman; and the trilogy-topping War for the Planet of the Apes (2017) stars Woody Harrelson, with Andy Serkis returning for the third and final time as Caesar.

The movies combine ground-breaking special effects with motion-capture performances, and by the time you reach the third film, your eyes will be convinced that there isn't a shred of CGI in sight - in short, everything from the hair on Caesar's head to the imperfections on his snout look like they're actually in front of the camera.

Now, let's find out where you can enjoy the Planet of the Apes trilogy online...

Yes, you can rent or purchase the new Planet of the Apes trilogy on YouTube Movies.

The Planet of the Apes trilogy is one of the most successful and critically-acclaimed reboots ever. And besides its jaw-dropping special effects and motion-capture performances, the most impressive thing is the fact that they aren't technically remakes - they're reimaginings, yet to reach the point of a 'planet of apes'.

But while War for the Planet of the Apes marks the end for Caesar's journey, it doesn't mark the end of the series. In 2017, after the film's release, Disney confirmed that a fourth film in the series was going into production. While there haven't really been any major updates since, director Wes Ball has offered some insight.

In a 2020 interview, he said: "We have a way of staying in the universe that was created before us, but we're also opening ourselves up in being able to do some really cool new stuff. Again, I'm trying to be careful here. I'll say this, for fans of the original three don't worry – you're in good hands."
