Traditionally, a shotgun wedding is defined as an enforced or hurried wedding due to a bride getting pregnant. Jennifer Lopez's new film, Shotgun Wedding, gives a different meaning to the term and takes things literally.
The film is a combination of comedy, thriller, and action. It is directed by Jason Moore, who also brought to life other comedies like Pitch Perfect and Sisters. The script is written by Mark Hammer.

When Is Shotgun Wedding Coming Out?
Shotgun Wedding was first announced on January 19, 2019 with plans to start filming in the summer of 2019. The movie was then rescheduled to start filming on February 2021.
Initially, the film had a theatrical release date set for June 29, 2022. But when Amazon Studios obtained the rights to the film in March 2022, these plans were changed.
As revealed, the film will now skip a theatrical release and will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting January 27, 2023.
What Is Shotgun Wedding Story About?
The official synopsis of Shotgun Wedding reads:
“In Shotgun Wedding, Darcy (Jennifer Lopez) and Tom (Josh Duhamel) gather their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding, just as the couple begin to get cold feet. And if that wasn’t enough of a threat to the celebration, suddenly everyone’s lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. “’Til Death Do Us Part” takes on a whole new meaning in this hilarious, adrenaline-fueled adventure as Darcy and Tom must save their loved ones—if they don’t kill each other first.”
The film follows an engaged couple as they gather their family and friends in a destination wedding. But as the ceremony takes place, the event is interrupted by a group of criminals who take the guests hostage.
Lopez and Duhamel must work together to rescue their loved ones and, in the process, are reminded of why they fell in love with each other in the first place.
Who’s Part of Shotgun Wedding Cast?
When the movie was first announced, Ryan Reynolds was revealed to star in the film as the male lead. In October 2020, Lopez joined the team as a producer for the film through Nuyorican Productions, alongside Benny Medina and Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas. The announcement also revealed that she would be joining the film as the lead.
Reynolds was then replaced by Armie Hammer. But with abuse allegations, Hammer decided to leave the project. Finally, the role went to Josh Duhamel.
