Cobra Kai Season 5 has just been released on Netflix this month and people are already wondering if there'll be a sixth installment of the show. After all, Cobra Kai "never dies."
But seriously, will there be a Cobra Kai Season 6 in the future? Here's what we know so far.
Is Cobra Kai Season 6 Confirmed?
As of this writing, there is no confirmation yet for Cobra Kai Season 6. But there are already some reports that the story will be continued. Showrunner Jon Hurwitz was asked on Twitter in August 2022 whether the sixth season has been written and when it will start filming: He answered: "Season 6 has not yet been written. Will get on that after filming Obliterated, but lots of kickass ideas already percolating! #CobraKai"
Usually, Netflix renews a show for another season before the current one starts. It hasn't happened yet with Cobra Kai. But with its immense success and support from fans, it's possible that Netflix will give the green light for the show to keep going. As a matter of fact, the showrunners have already been talking about a possible Cobra Kai Season 6 storyline.
In an interview with Collider, Hayden Schlossberg said:
“We now know that this is the biggest tournament in the world. And Daniel and Gianni and Chozen, you know, have an entry point in there and Cobra Kai also does, but we don't know what's happening with Cobra Kai right now. And yeah, we just love the idea of constantly raising the bar and the levels. […] So they need a bigger challenge, and they will get one. But how that all plays out? We'll see.”
In addition to that, Ralph Macchio (who plays Daniel LaRusso in the show) told Comicbook.com that they have already filmed some stuff for season 5 which will be used in the next season: "There's stuff that was in Season 5 that we know we shot that is being held for the future if we get that green light, so there's more to come, we hope."
Will Cobra Kai Season 6 Be the Last?
In July 2022, Hurwitz responded to a tweet that asked him if he is "close to the end on Cobra Kai." Hurwitz teased: "All I can say is that we expect more Cobra Kai to come and that the Miyagiverse is far from finished. #CobraKai #Netflix."
When is Cobra Kai Season 6 Release Date?
Right now, Cobra Kai Season 6 has not yet been given the green light. So there's no release date to look forward to yet.
If it does get renewed, the show will likely have a gap of at least a year as seen on previous release dates:
- Cobra Kai Season 1 - May 2018 release
- Cobra Kai Season 2 - April 2019 release
- Cobra Kai Season 3 - January 2021 release
- Cobra Kai Season 4 - December 2021 release
- Cobra Kai Season 5 - September 2022 release
It's possible that Cobra Kai Season 6 will get a release date anywhere between June to September 2023.
What Will Cobra Kai Season 6 Story Be About?

As for its story, it's possible that it won't be the same Cobra Kai we've grown to love and know throughout the years. For one, there isn't a rivalry anymore between the two dojos.
That's because Silver's misdeeds are finally revealed at the end of Cobra Kai Season 5. He was also exposed for cheating during the All-Valley tournament, which led to his students ditching him.
And now that they're out of Silver's class, they are left with a question: will they join Miyagi-Do/Eagle Fang? Or will they give up the sport for good?
We'll know for sure once Cobra Kai Season 6 is revealed.
Who Will Be Part of Cobra Kai Season 6 Cast?
Cobra Kai will never be the same without the two leads: Ralph Macchio and William Zabka (as Johnny Lawrence). So we can definitely see them return for Cobra Kai Season 6.
