Indeed, the only rose among the thorns for the original Avengers team, Black Widow is finally having her much-awaited solo film. Black Widow is set to take place between the events of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War, a major throwback for the timeline of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Although it is quite unusual for a solo adventure film to be released after the death of Black Widow in the Avengers: Endgame, it deems fit that she gets her own film to solidify her story and give her a send-off in the MCU.

Following the events of Captain America: Civil War, Black Widow takes the story back to when Black Widow is running from the government after the Avengers team broke down because of the Sokovia Accords. Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson) comes home to her first family, Alexei Shostakov (David Harbour), also known as the Red Guardian, Yelena Belova (Florence Pugh), another Black Widow, and Melina Vostokoff (Rachel Weisz), the Iron Maiden. In her journey back home, Natasha attempts to erase the red remaining from her ledger which forms part of her haunted past, Natasha Romanoff tries to reconcile with her own history.

The main villain of the story will be Taskmaster, a skilled tactician with a photographic memory and reflexes which enables him to mimic the fighting skills of anyone by simply watching them do it. The film will also show the intense relationship between Natasha and Yelena as they would pair up to take down the Red Room, the vision of Natasha when Scarlet Witch put her in a trance back in Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Supposedly the first release after the Avengers: Endgame, Black Widow was set to be in theaters in mid-2020. However, due to the hiatus brought by the pandemic, the release date of Black Widow was pushed to May 7, 2021, and is set to be the first film in the MCU to be back in theaters.
