Tessa Thompson discusses Charlotte Hale's sinister character arc in Westworld Season 4, which premieres next month on HBO.

Evan Rachel Wood plays Dolores Abernathy, a host who sacrificed herself to slay Rehoboam at the conclusion of Season 3 and will thus return in Season 4 as a new character, a writer named Christina.

In addition to Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Aaron Paul, Luke Hemsworth, Angela Sarafyan, and Ed Harris in key roles, Aurora Perrineau, Daniel Wu, and Ariana DeBose from West Side Story join the cast in recurring roles for Westworld Season 4.

Charlotte Hale, played by Thompson, has grown a lot as a character since her debut, yet she has always been a villain.

Tessa Thompson on what to expect from her villainous character in Westworld Season 4

Thompson teased Charlotte's villainous arc in Westworld Season 4 in a recent interview with io9. Though she was careful not to reveal too much, the Thor: Love and Thunder actress teased her character's future plans, including ambitions beyond mere power.

“I’m anxious not to give anything away, but I think, as I understood it this season, [Hale’s] plan is sort of bigger than just a desire for power,” Thompson shared. “I think there’s a sort of righteous path in her mind that she’s carving, not just for herself, but for all hosts.”

“And, of course, I think the best leaders don’t make anybody do anything. They invite people to do things, and people typically want to because of the strength of their leadership and ideas. I don’t know that Hale entirely understands that; I think she’s trying to make people see things her way and is having various degrees of success.”

She then emphasized that Hale “thinks she’s doing the right thing,” adding “I’m always fascinated by people who do unsavory things for righteous reasons—I think that is really fascinating.”

Westworld Season 4 sees fewer obstacles for Halores

Thompson has been a host since the conclusion of Season 2 when Charlotte's human body was replaced with a synthetic replica and implanted with a copy of Dolores' consciousness. He was first presented as the executive director of Delos, who is brought to Westworld to quiet the host revolt.

Halores, as she's been called by fans, was a prominent character in Season 3, which takes place outside the park in the real world, as she works toward the objective of toppling humanity while simultaneously dealing with the human family Charlotte left behind.

As Thompson's comment suggests, the upcoming Westworld Season 4 will have fewer obstacles in Halores' path. The new season will also see the continuation of her relationship with another series antagonist, William, a.k.a. the Man in Black, who was killed and replaced by a host controlled by Halores. Only time will tell what Westworld has in store for these two villains when the fourth season premieres on HBO on June 26.
