Wednesday Star Jenna Ortega Admits to Being 'Almost Unprofessional' for Changing Dialogues

Wednesday became one of the most-watched Netflix original shows to date and it has also propelled Jenna Ortega into a global superstar even further. Fortunately for fans, the series has already been renewed for a second season so we will be seeing more of Wednesday Addams' kooky adventure.

In a recent interview on the Armchairs Expert podcast (via TVLine), Ortega shared more behind-the-scenes details about the series where she admitted that she changed some of the dialogues herself due to her disagreements on several of the lines that were given to her.

"Everything that Wednesday does, everything I had to play, did not make sense for her character at all," she said. "Her being in a love triangle made no sense. There was a line about a dress she has to wear for a school dance and she says, ‘Oh my God, I love it! Ugh, I can’t believe I said that. I literally hate myself.’ I had to go, ‘No.'"

The Scream VI star recalled feeling "almost unprofessional" due to the changes that she made in the dialogues and was approached by the script supervisor regarding why she did it.

"The script supervisor thought I was going with something, and then I had to sit down with the writers, and they’d be like, ‘Wait, what happened to the scene?' I’d have to go and explain why I couldn’t go do certain things," Ortega shared.

The actress also explained that she has become "very, very protective" and wants to make sure that the show will have believability and her character's likability.

"You can’t lead a story and have no emotional arc, because then it’s boring and nobody likes you. When you are little and say very morbid, offensive stuff, it’s funny and endearing. But then you become a teenager, and it’s nasty and you know it. There’s less of an excuse," she said.

Based on her comments, it sounds like Ortega was really involved in the shaping of her character in the series although, usually, it happens in consultation with the director and writers. Heading to the second season, the actress will be getting more leeway since has been confirmed by Elle that she will have an executive producer credit in the next chapter.
