Watch Gameplay for Overwatch’s Next Hero, Echo

Echo had been teased to us way back in 2018, but she's finally going to be arriving as a playable character in Overwatch soon. She's now available to play in the PTR, and we have some gameplay footage courtesy of Your Overwatch.

Check it out:

Echo is apparently a DPS hero, and is kind of a play on Pharrah when it comes to her flight ability. What's interesting is her ultimate which allows Echo to copy any player in the enemy team. When Echo mimics an enemy, she obtains all of their skills, and the ultimate charge is accelerated so that Echo can perform a devastating attack almost instantly.

It's also worth noting that the enemy that is mimicked is not allowed to change characters while Echo is copying them.

For a full breakdown, you can hear it from the game director himself, Jeff Kaplan:

This is a pretty fun ability, and I'm curious just how Echo will play out when she becomes live for the main game. There's been a lot of hype surrounding the character, with some guessing she'll only be available for Overwatch 2. If anything, she looks to be the last hero addition to the first game, but I could be speaking too soon.

No release date has been set for Echo yet, but seeing as heroes usually release a month after the announcement, we could be getting her in April; then again, with the Coronavirus effectively delaying everything, I won't be surprised if she comes out in May.

Overwatch is currently playable for Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
