Virgin River is a Netflix original series that tells the story of Melinda Monroe, a nurse, and midwife, who travels to Virgin River, North California, to work and start afresh, leaving her painful memories behind. The series has b been a success since its release in 2019 and was renewed for its fourth and fifth season by the time season 3 came out. Now that Virgin River season 4 has debuted on Netflix, here is everything we know about the awaited Virgin River season 5.

Virgin River Season 5 Release Date: When Will the Fifth Season of Virgin River Come Out?

Virgin River season 5 does not have an official release date yet. We will hopefully be seeing the series release by summer 2023 if its production goes as planned. Virgin River was renewed for the fourth and fifth season soon after season 3 came out.

When Did Virgin River Season 5 Start Filming?

There have been reports that Virgin River started filming for its fifth season on July 18, 2022. Principal photography for the season is expected to be completed by November of the same year.

In an interview with Glamour, Henderson teased that this season is the best one yet.

Season five’s great, by the way. It’s the best season yet. I’m amazing in it.

Where was Virgin River Season 5 Filmed?

Virgin River season 5 was filmed in locations around British Columbia. Some scenes were taken in Snug Cove and Port Coquitlam on Bowen Island. Other scenes were taken in Brackendale, New Westminster, and Murdo Frazer Park.

Virgin River Season 5 will be More Diverse and More Inclusive

Virgin River is a great show that captured the hearts of many drama viewers, but it may need to catch up with other shows with more colorful characters. Jinny Howe, Netflix's Head of Drama, addressed this in an interview with Deadline, saying that the casting for Virgin River season 5 is more diverse and more inclusive.

Without getting specific, I will say that that continues to be a focus. Some of our early casting conversations for season 5, I think it’s fair to say that that is going to continue to be a focus and something the audience will get to experience more in season 5. It’s definitely a priority, and I think you will see, as we expand the Virgin River community, that there will be more diversity and inclusion.

Virgin River was developed by Sue Tenney based on the novel by Robyn Carr. We may see Martin Wood return to direct Virgin River season 5, but we have to wait to confirm.

Virgin River Season 5 has a New Showrunner

The fifth season of the series will be working with a new showrunner. Patrick Sean Smith is taking over as the showrunner from Sue Tenney. The change was announced on the official Instagram account of the show.

In one of his interviews, Smith described how much he enjoyed working on the fifth season of Virgin River since he was already a fan.

Virgin River Season 5 Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Netflix Original Series?

There is not much information about the storyline of Virgin River season 5. Here are some of the potential storylines the series will follow.

Mel and Jack Getting Married and Building a Family

The season's most likely storyline will follow is about Mel’s journey as a mother, as she may give birth in season 5. Hopefully, we may also see Jack and Mel settle down and get married, with many fans hoping to see the happy ending that Jack and Mel deserve.

Charmaine and the Twins

We may also be seeing Jack confront his feelings and confusion caused by his attachment and apparent connection to Mel’s child. The season may also finally show how Jack reacts to Charmaine's revelation that the twins are not his.

Preacher

We may also see Preacher live a fuller life in season 5, especially after his encounter daw with Vince by the end of season 4.

Will Cameron Stay?

Cameron came to Virgin River to help out in the clinic, but after his awkward exchange with Mel, we were expecting Cameron to say goodbye. We may see him in season 5 still, though, because reports show him attending the table read for season 5.

Lizzie, Denny, and Ricky

Lizzie and Denny have a budding relationship that may just be cut short after Denny tells Lizzie of his disease. Will they continue dating in the next season?

We may hopefully see Ricky return from basic training in season 5.

In an interview with NewBeauty, Virgin River star Alexandra Breckenridge talked about 'the best episode ever' in season 5.

I think this season has started out well and we’re getting into a few episodes soon that are pretty heavy. They’re really intense and I think that they’re some of the best episodes we’ve ever done. I never say that either! I think that there’s a high sense of drama that starts to come up this season that it’s going to leave people on the edge of their seats. At least, I hope. I’m excited to get into that.
