It has only been a week since the release of Bloodshot and it looks like the comic book film is one of the first victims of the Coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19). With people being asked to self-isolate to avoid a pandemic, the Vin Diesel movie has suffered as there is no one who will go to the theaters to watch it. Nevertheless, Sony Pictures has an interesting new plan. The studio has decided to give the action flick an early home release so fans can still enjoy it at home.
The announcement comes from The Hollywood Reporter, which shared an official statement from Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman.
"Sony Pictures is firmly committed to theatrical exhibition and we support windowing. This is a unique and exceedingly rare circumstance where theaters have been required to close nationwide for the greater good and Bloodshot is abruptly unavailable in any medium. Audiences will now have the chance to own Bloodshot right away and see it at home, where we are all spending more time. We are confident that -- like other businesses hit hard by the virus -- movie theaters will bounce back strongly, and we will be there to support them," Rothman said.
It's an interesting move considering that Bloodshot has only been in theaters for a week. However, it's not a surprise considering that Sony still want to make sure they could make money out of the film despite the COVID-19.
Bloodshot will be available on digital on March 24.
