Toy Story Fans Accuse Pixar of 'Castrating' Buzz Lightyear for Replacing Tim Allen with Chris Evans

There is little doubt that people are already hyped up for the premiere of Lightyear since it's the first major Toy Story spin-off movie. However, it looks like some are still not happy about Chris Evans taking over as Buzz Lightyear. People are slamming Pixar and Disney for allegedly "castrating" the beloved character by replacing original voice actor Tim Allen with a younger actor!

Tim Allen had played Buzz Lightyear in all of the Toy Story films so fans were expecting the actor to return for the character's spin-off movie. So it was a huge surprise when it was announced that Chris Evans will provide the voice of Buzz in the film.

Still, fans are not convinced and even actress Patricia Heaton has expressed her disappointment that Tim Allen was not asked to return for the film.

"Saw the trailer for Buzz Lightyear and all I can say is Disney/Pixar made a HUGE mistake in not casting my pal @ofctimallen Tim Allen in the role that he originated, the role that he owns. Tim IS Buzz! Why would they completely castrate this iconic, beloved character?" Heaton wrote.

Although there are some who are unhappy with the recast, it has been explained that Lightyear will actually focus on the man who inspired the creation of the toy so the recast was necessary. Moreover, Tim Allen may have been busy working on other projects to reprise the role.

Lightyear tells the story of young astronaut Buzz Lightyear who is marooned on a hostile planet with his commander and crew. Buzz tries to find a way back home and save his companions while confronting a threat in the form of the Emperor Zurg.

Lightyear premiered in theaters on June 17, 2022.
