The sequel for Top Gun had already started shooting, but Paramount has decided to put the film on hold and has delayed the release by a year.
According to USA Today, Top Gun: Maverick was originally set to release July 2019, but has now landed a new premiere date of June 26, 2020. The reason for the delay was that so the filmmakers could work on ‘the logistics of presenting flight sequences with new technology and planes.'
It's weird that the film should suddenly halt production as last week, new cast members were just announced in the form of Ed Harris (Westworld) and Jon Hamm (Mad Men).

The movie will have Cruise reprise his role of Pete ‘Maverick' Mitchell, and now he's the flight supervisor to a new batch of pilots. Miles Teller will be playing he son of Goose (Anthony Edwards), and Monica Barbaro will be the first woman pilot in the squad.
Not to mention Val Kilmer is set to return as Iceman as well.
The movie's delay is certainly a blow to some fans, but at least we could look forward to a well-polished movie come 2020.
