Top Changes Fans Want in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022)

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022) is coming this year, and it's the sequel to 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, a game many loved but many fans had a lot of issues with. In the years since Modern Warfare came out, what fans want from a sequel has become pretty clear. So, in this article, we'll explain all the top changes fans want in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II (2022).

Call of Duty fans agree: When you fire an unsuppressed weapon, you should appear on the minimap for enemies to spot if they're nearby. And if you're using Ghost, a Perk that should have solid competition in its category, you should only be prevented from popping up on the minimap if you're moving.

Last, Dead Silence as a Field Upgrade that gives you, temporarily, the effects of the Ghost and Ninja perks and speeds up your movement should not exist in Call of Duty, and the Field Upgrade as a whole is better off just deleted rather than tweaked as it was in Call of Duty: Vanguard.

Additionally, silencers should work like they do in Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War: In general, silencers trade something like range for silencing your weapon and keeping you off the minimap. Making silencers too powerful or too weak makes them functionally useless.

Better Maps

Most of the maps in Modern Warfare (2019) fans did not like. They were too big, too filled with corners to hide in, and they encouraged campy, sedentary gameplay, lest you get beamed by someone hiding somewhere you couldn't see as you move about the map.

Maps in Modern Warfare II should be more like the maps in Black Ops Cold War. In general, Cold War's maps had three lanes like traditional Call of Duty maps, but they weren't linear passageways. There was enough freedom and room to maneuver around to keep things interesting with enough direction to make gameplay flow well.

Considering Modern Warfare II is called what it's called, a healthy dose of classic Modern Warfare 2 maps are also expected by fans, including favorites like Terminal, Highrise, and Favela. Rust and Shipment are also expected by fans to return, them being the most iconic Modern Warfare maps and maybe the most iconic Call of Duty maps ever outside of Nuketown.

A Good Third Mode

Infinity Ward struggled to design a truly excellent side mode for its Call of Duty games for most of the company's history until Modern Warfare (2019) when Infinity Ward introduced Warzone as a side mode. Battle royale was, and is, a natural fit for Call of Duty.

Spec Ops in Modern Warfare (2019) was not well received. In fact, the mode was largely written off by fans and critics alike as a half-baked, single-player game of Warzone with really bad A.I. Fans are not excited for more Spec Ops in Modern Warfare II.

An open-world, multiplayer side mode in the general style of Warzone's Plunder or Cold War's Fireteam is rumored in Modern Warfare II, and this kind of mode, if well-executed, would be a great fit for the series. Fans want a chill open-world mode they can play to grind camo challenges, level up guns, and generally have some more laidback fun in, and this mode could provide that.

Improvements of Cold War and Vanguard

Neither Black Ops Cold War nor Vanguard are particularly innovative games, but they did each bring some excellent additions that should stick with Call of Duty going forward.

Cold War brought weapon stats, adjustable FOV on console, and 6v6 on Gunfight maps, all of which are popular additions to the series. Vanguard brought playercount flexibility, more weapon and operator customization, and the excellent new mode Patrol.

Popular features of the games since Modern Warfare (2019) would be great to see in Modern Warfare II, especially when the additions we're talking about aren't particularly major. Some things should obviously be in Modern Warfare II, like weapon stats, but in general, fans would like to see a few of these games' features return in Modern Warfare II.

Stability

Modern Warfare (2019), Black Ops Cold War, and Vanguard (as well as Warzone) all had major problems with bugs and stability at launch, and in the case of Warzone and Vanguard, these are still very much so ongoing issues.

Fans are sick of the latest Call of Duty being broken for months on launch, and while the game doesn't need to be perfect, a level of polish and stability we haven't seen for a couple of releases is becoming more and more important for fans.

Even the matchmaking system of the last few games has never really worked that well with party members routinely being disconnected or being unable to hear or talk to other party members on top of issues like not appearing online or not being able to invite your friends. These kinds of issues fans would love to see tidied up in Modern Warfare II.

SBMM Tuning

Activision has always been tight-lipped about how the matchmaking system in Call of Duty actually works, but fans agree that things changed drastically with Modern Warfare (2019) and have been in need of an overhaul since that game came out.

How the games try and match you with other players often feels erratic and frustrating, making you feel like, win or lose, your performance was kind of decided for you by whatever strange algorithm behind-the-scenes is deciding what players to match you up with.

Fans are desperate for SBMM changes in Modern Warfare II, especially changes that make the system less secretive and inaccessible so gamers can understand what actually goes into matchmaking in Call of Duty.
