Things looked to finally be moving forward for Sony's Uncharted movie after Mark Wahlberg was cast, but it looks like the film has caught yet another major snag.
According to Deadline, the movie has lost yet another director in the form of Travis Knight. The reason was said to be because of Holland's schedule for shooting Spider-Man 3; which won't allow for Knight to take on the job.
While Knight is best known for his animation work (Kubo and the Two Strings), he had also done a stellar job with the live-action Bumblebee spinoff. It's kind of a shame that he won't be working on Uncharted anymore, but I think Sony would have to be crazy if they decided to delay Spider-Man so they can have this Nathan Drake adventure made.
If anything, Sony is once again looking for a new director and a new release date. Since 2010, Uncharted has had six directors attached, all having left the project for different reasons. At this point, everyone is convinced Holland will be old enough to play adult Drake by the time this film comes out.
Despite the loss of directors, Holland and Wahlberg are still pretty much attached to the project, and the studio still looks to be making Uncharted the spearhead of a new studio branch for Sony in the form of Playstation Productions—a studio that will focus specifically on turning Sony games into films.
We don't know when Sony will find its next director, but it sure looks like Uncharted won't be hitting theaters anytime soon.
