Tom Holland Announces Production Start for Uncharted Movie

COVID-19 had effectively canceled every movie production for several months, but things are starting to bounce back slowly. Just in, Tom Holland has confirmed that production has now started for the Uncharted film from Sony.

He posted this on IG:

While some people are still unsure about whether they should get excited about an Uncharted movie, this should be good news for fans of Spider-Man. A lot of people were worried that Spider-Man 3 could be delayed because of this movie having production held back, but with things getting into gear, this could mean that production for the next Spidey film could start with no hassle.

Of course, just because production started, it doesn't mean that it's going to be smooth sailing until wrap. Word had gone around that production for Jurassic World: Dominion had to be stopped because multiple crew members had tested positive for COVID-19, but this has since been refuted by the Universal. Even if that is the case, Sony should be extra careful when it comes to starting production.

Though properties like Fallout and The Last of Us are going the TV series route, I think it makes sense for Uncharted to be a film. After all, the franchise kind of has shallow characters in my opinion, and the real draw of Uncharted has always been adventure and spectacle—something you should expect from a big-budget film. I'm just hoping this movie manages to complement the existing games rather than try to re-tell Nathan Drake's story.

Uncharted is currently slated for a release on July 16, 2021.
