Thor: Love and Thunder Star Christian Bale Shares Initial Reaction to Seeing Comic Book Gorr

There is little doubt that Christian Bale does just about anything to immerse himself into the characters he plays in his movies. It's been truly effective for the Academy Award winner but it looks like there's at least one thing he wasn't ready for when he took on the role of Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder!

Christian Bale admitted that he did what most people do when they want to learn about a comic book character: He looked Gorr up on the internet. However, what he saw was almost enough to dissuade him from pushing through with the role.

"You sort of go, 'I know what he does.' It's right there in the name, isn't it?" Bale told Total Film. "But I did make the mistake of Googling him and, oh no! [In the comics] he runs around in a G-string all the time.'"

Bale continues by stating he discussed the role with director Taika Waititi who immediately told him he didn't have to put on a thong to play Gorr.

"And I thought, 'They don't have the right man for that!' And then Taika quickly dispelled any notions of running around in that. But I always did think what he could do with this in front of a bluescreen – he could chuck on whatever he wants later on," he said.

We're glad that Taika Waititi decided against a comic-accurate costume for Gorr considering that it would have been very uncomfortable for Bale. With that in mind, we can't wait to see Bale's version of the supervillain in Thor: Love and Thunder next month.

Thor: Love and Thunder also stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Pom Klementieff, and Jaimie Alexander. The film will finally hit theaters on July 8, 2022.
