This Is Us Season 6 Episode 5: We Now Know How Rebecca and Miguel Got Together

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 5 recounts how Rebecca (Mandy Moore) and Miguel (Jon Huertas) fell in love.

The latest episode, titled Heart and Soul, does not provide fans with the Rebecca and Miguel history they were hoping for. However, it appears that this is only the beginning.

This Is Us Season 6 Episode 5: Rebecca and Miguel Try Speed Dating

At the opening of the new episode on Feb. 1, young Kate (Hannah Zeile) criticizes Miguel and Rebecca for being uninteresting. So Miguel suggests to his friend that they go speed dating. Rebecca is first hesitant, but she eventually chooses to go. After Jack's death, it's time to move on. But — at first – it's a disaster.

Rebecca keeps mentioning Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and the events of his death as she meets possible suitors in This Is Us Season 6 Episode 5. Only Miguel appears to make the Pearson matriarch feel at ease, and they promise each other that if speed dating doesn't work out, they'll leave.

But then Rebecca meets Matt Dickson (Matt Corboy), who she met in Season 3 Episode 14 when he invited her out on a date. They get along so well that they leave early and go out for coffee together.

A Turning Point for Rebecca

It's intriguing that Rebecca was even considering dating again at that point. Jack was an excellent husband and parent; despite his flaws, he always made his family believe that he was completely committed to them. So it's not difficult to see Rebecca deciding not to remarry, but that definitely wasn't the case.

Most fans have grown accustomed to the fact that Miguel is Rebecca's new husband at this time. He was cast as a villain for a time since he was frequently compared to Jack. The grown-up Big Three weren't crazy about him at first, either. However, as the series progressed, they, as well as the fans, softened their stance on Miguel after realizing how good he is.

Miguel now has the opportunity to prove that he's every bit as good a guy as his best buddy, especially as Rebecca's Alzheimer's disease progresses and she enters the most difficult years of her life.

When This Is Us Season 6 Episode 6 airs on Tuesday, Feb. 22, we'll see where this story goes.
