The first season of The Witcher showed an unexpected bond between Geralt and Jaskier. The whimsical bard only followed along the Witcher's journey to get some inspirations for his songs, but both characters eventually found a friend in each other. The pair's chemistry really translates through the screen, and as it turns out, it wasn't even hard to accomplish this with actors Henry Cavill and Joey Batey.
In a recent interview with ComicBook, The Witcher showrunner Lauren Hissrich revealed that "there were no challenges" in bringing the characters to life. "That relationship is so pure," she said. "We wrote it on screen, and then Henry and Joey have a great relationship, and there is plenty of ad-libbing happening in those scenes."
Hissrich says the actors' energy "plays so well of each other" and that their chemistry is "really great." She says one of the things she loves when writing about the two of them is that Jaskier believes Geralt is his best friend and that they were meant to cross paths. He can use the Witcher for his songs, but he still believes that Geralt is his best friend. "And Geralt is like, 'Hell no,' because that's how Geralt deals with things in life," she explained. "He doesn't want to admit that he needs connection."
"And what I think is great through these two seeing their relationship play out over the season is that you do start to see where Geralt needs Jaskier and wants Jaskier," she added. Hissrich admits that she thinks their friendship is the "funniest" and the "most heartwarming part" of the whole season.
It looks like there's plenty of Geralt and Jaskier's adventures to look forward to and fans can't wait to learn more about their friendship.
