We already know that The Witcher Season 3 is currently in production although the details about the new season are still being kept under wraps. However, it looks like some photos taken from the set confirm that Geralt of Rivia will be facing off against Vilgefortz and that the show is going to feature a scene straight out of the Andrzej Sapkowski books!
The photos were taken from the set of The Witcher Season 3 (via Redanian Intelligence) and show Henry Cavill filming alongside Mahesh Jadu, who plays Vilgefortz in the series. It also looks like the scene is being shot along the beach making for a dramatic backdrop. Check it out here.
It's an interesting sequence considering that the two characters have not seen themselves on opposing sides within the Netflix show. However, Geralt and Vilgefortz actually end up fighting each other in the novel Time of Contempt. We won't spoil anything about why these two characters are in a duel but it should be something to look forward to in The Witcher Season 3.
It has been established that The Witcher Season 3 will continue to adapt parts of Sapkowski's novel Blood of Elves which served as the inspiration behind the second season. However, most of the upcoming season will follow the events in Time of Contempt as well.
The Witcher Season 3 will bring back Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allen as Princess Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengenberg. It has also been confirmed that Joey Batey will return as the fan-favorite bard Jaskier.
For now, The Witcher Season 3 is still in production and updates about the series have been rare and far between. However, we could be getting some news in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
