Before diving into the second season of The Witcher live-action series, fans will be able to explore Vesemir's story prior to becoming Geralt's mentor in the upcoming anime Nightmare of the Wolf. Details about the animated movie are kept under wraps, but here's what to expect in terms of its canon story.

In a recent interview with ComicBook.com, writer Beau DeMayo talks about Nightmare of the Wolf's canon status. "The show is… it's funny because it's such a unique property," he said. "Because the show is based on the books and not the game."

"It's been an interesting thing to control that perspective," DeMayo continued. "In terms of, we were looking at the books, always looking at the books. And there's always going to be some similarities because they're all coming from the same mothership, basically."

DeMayo admits that he can't say much about the anime yet, but he did tease that there's "definitely something" that's canon with the Netflix live-action series.

In a previous interview, he also shared why they chose to go with the anime route on Nightmare of the Wolf. Basically, they would want to do something that can be made in animation, but not in live-action. Though he pointed out that there isn't any "parity" between the two mediums, DeMayo thinks there would be some scenes that would look "amazing" in the anime form instead of doing it in live-action where it'll potentially look "goofy."
