The showrunner of the Supernatural spinoff series The Winchesters provides insights about the prequel's new monsters.

The format is identical to the original series, with John and Mary trying to unravel mysteries and enlisting the assistance of a crew of amateur demon hunters along the way.

The gang meets Ada, a fascinating woman with an interest in the occult, who offers insight into their paranormal problems. The two must now collaborate to safeguard their families' legacies while also cultivating their developing relationship.

The Winchesters Will Feature New Monsters

The Winchesters showrunner Robbie Thompson divulges new monster design information in an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Former Supernatural writer Thompson talks about how he approaches creating new monster designs for the spinoff series.

"Specifically for this one we wanted to start with something fresh and new, not something that Supernatural fans had seen," the showrunner shared.

He was eager to stress out the limitations of revisiting monsters familiar to fans of the program, asking his team to strive for fresh creatures that will keep audiences guessing. Thompson recognizes the strengths of Supernatural's early seasons' "monster of the week" structure and aims to emulate it here.

"It's one of the many things that Supernatural did so incredibly well, so we'll be doing a lot of new and fun monsters, but you will see some old favorites in that regard," he added.

The Winchesters Premiere

Fans of Supernatural can anticipate numerous Easter eggs, cameos, and allusions to the original series throughout the season, which will mostly focus on the love narrative between John and Mary. Ackles not only narrates The Winchesters, but he also serves as executive producer, which may assuage fans' concerns about how accurate the spinoff is.

As a reward for those who persisted with the series, Thompson also hinted that the show's biggest mystery—where in the timeline Jensen Ackles' Dean narration takes place—will be resolved in The Winchesters Season 1. Even while the series has its own story to tell, the showrunner promises that devoted viewers will feel the benefits.

So far, reviews of the debut have been divided; many have complimented the show's innovative approach, which should appeal to both fans and newbies, while others have critiqued the departure from Supernatural's tragic, brooding tone.

The Winchesters Episode 1 is now available, and new episodes run Tuesdays at 8 p.m. and are accessible to stream the next day on The CW's app.
