Meg Donnelly, who plays Mary in the Supernatural prequel, suggests that Jensen Ackles’ Dean Winchester will be seeing Mary again in The Winchesters.
The Winchesters Might Have a Bigger Role for Dean
At the finale of Supernatural, it was revealed that after Dean's death, he would spend all of eternity with his brother Sam, who was portrayed by Jared Padalecki, in Heaven. Despite his narration roles in The Winchesters, he hasn't yet had any significant interactions with his parents.
Donnelly, however, suggests that Dean might have a bigger role in the program in a CBR interview.
"It would even be cool for Mary to meet Dean again. Just for my own sake -- that would be so much fun to work with Jensen Ackles again,” the actress said. “I'm not sure. We definitely have lines or scenes that are odes to that, which I don't want to spoil."
The Odds of Dean Making an Appearance on The Winchesters
The Winchesters chronicles John and Mary Winchester's exploits as they battle supernatural beings all across the world. While the show has continued the spirit of Supernatural by highlighting the early years of the family company, it lacks the sibling ties that kept the original program together because Sam is absent and Dean serves as just a narrator.
It would make sense if Ackles chose not to assume a larger part in The Winchesters, given the several important projects occupying his time. But the fact that he first accepted to play the narrator is a strong hint that he would be amenable to a more significant role.
Ackles has been quite busy since the end of Supernatural. His performance as a major character in The Boys Season 3 swept the world by storm. Soldier Boy, a World War II hero with parallels to modern characters, was praised for highlighting Ackles' talent as an actor.
Eric Kripke, the original Supernatural showrunner, is in charge of the program, and he saw Ackles' skill and wanted him to play the nasty and morally repugnant Soldier Boy.
It's another indicator that Ackles hasn't totally given up his ties to Supernatural since they definitely continue to propel him forward. Only time will tell if Dean somehow manages to end up on the set of The Winchesters as new episodes resume in 2023.
