The new The Walking Dead: Dead City trailer finally revealed how Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) ended up in Manhattan.

The upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff, one of the three spinoffs coming, will see Maggie and Negan on their way to New York City to save the former’s son, Hershel (Logan Kim). From being mortal enemies, how come these two end up as allies?

The 37-second trailer began with Maggie meeting Negan outside her truck, ending up literally in each other’s throats.

“I thought you’re better on your feet,” Maggie told Negan, to which he responded with, “Good to see you, too.”

The next scene showed them traveling, with Maggie driving while Negan was at the back of the truck.

“You don’t trust me. Hell, I wouldn’t trust me either,” he said.

However, it seems that Maggie has no choice but to trust Negan if she wants to save her child from The Croat (Željko Ivanek).

The two travel to Manhattan by riding a boat through the Walker-infested waters. In one scene, a man is holding a wanted poster with Negan’s face.

Why Maggie Travels with Negan?

In The Walking Dead finale, Maggie accepted Negan’s apology but swore she would never forgive him for killing Glenn (Steven Yeun) in the show’s seventh season.

He left, probably settling down with his expecting wife, Annie (Elizabeth Keener), in one of the communities. And though it was unlikely that Maggie would need his help to rescue Hershel, he seemed to be her only hope.

With the revelation of Negan’s wanted poster in Manhattan, he may know something about what’s happening in the city.

The Croat and Negan may have an unknown history that may be explored in The Walking Dead: Dead City.

So even if their alliance may not be as smooth sailing, they may both benefit from their new journey in the Big Apple.

Maggie’s reason for going to Manhattan is to save Hershel. But Negan may want to prove he has already changed, or there may be another reason he needs to be in Manhattan.
