AMC dropped major details about the upcoming The Walking Dead spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, at New York Comic-Con panel on Saturday, October 8. The network also gave its first look at the series with a batch of official photos.

Dead City will be set in New York this time—far different from The Walking Dead’s original location. That said, fans are about to see a big difference from the show when the spinoff finally drops.

The Walking Dead: Dead City Synopsis

Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) will be meeting the biggest threat in his life in Dead City, and it’s none other than Maggie (Lauren Cohan).

This side of the story is not surprising at all, given that Negan killed her husband, Glenn (Steven Yeun), in front of her in The Walking Dead Season 7 premiere.

But despite that, the two have developed a civil relationship, building trust between them.

So, they’re now navigating life in a city full of walkers on their own.

They will be traversing “a post-apocalyptic Manhattan long ago cut off from the mainland,” the series’ synopsis read. “The crumbling city is filled with the dead and denizens who have made New York City their own world full of anarchy, danger, beauty, and terror.”

Aside from starring in the series, Morgan and Cohan will also executively produce the show with The Walking Dead veteran head Eli Jorné.

The Controversies Surrounding The Walking Dead: Dead City

The earlier details about Dead City are quite messy. It was first titled Isle of the Dead until AMC changed it to Dead City.

The spinoff was also announced before The Walking Dead officially ended, ruining the excitement of seeing who would survive the show.

However, fans are still looking forward to seeing the new show.

Maggie has evidently softened toward Negan, though they’re still far from being the best of friends.

So, viewers probably want to see how they will get along when they’re left with no choice but to be together and become allies in a new city they’re in.

Despite their tragic past, they will face dangers together and protect each other’s backs.
