The Super Mario Bros. Movie Returns After Three Decades!
Despite Nintendo being wary about film adaptations of the title after the failure of the Super Mario Bros. movie in 1993, Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, and Nintendo, finally gave in through their work at the Universal Parks & Resorts that maybe it is now time for another movie.
In January 2018, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has been announced to be under development with Universal and Illumination and aboard are Miyamoto and Meledandri co-producing. Two years after, in 2020, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa said that the movie is smoothly on its way, expecting a 2022 release.
However, the pandemic hit the world hard. Thus, it forced the studios involved to push The Super Mario Bros. Movie a year further.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is currently slated for release on April 7, 2023, and it takes everyone back, with the famous characters of the game it is based on, to the Mushroom Kingdom after 29 years since the 1993 Super Mario Bros. film.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie Cast: Who are the Actors Included in the Film?
Joining Chris Pratt who voices Mario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie are Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong, Fred Armisen as Cranky Kong, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Kevin Michael Richardson as Kamek.
Khary Payton will voice the Penguin King, Sebastian Maniscalco will lend his voice as Foreman Spike, and the voice of Mario in the game franchise, Charles Martinet, will be voicing an undisclosed cameo.
Despite the backlash behind the casting of Chris Pratt as the voice of Mario, the director of the The Super Mario Bros. Movie defended their decision to bring in the actor to the movie. Pratt also responded to the backlash.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie co-director Aaron Horvath defended Pratt's casting in a recent interview with Total Film (via Games Radar), "For us, it made total sense. He's really good at playing a blue-collar hero with a ton of heart. For the way that Mario is characterized in our film, he’s perfect for it."
Pratt, himself, opened up about being cast as Mario in BBC's The One Show (via Collider), "There are only a handful of things we've ever heard Mario say. The 'wahoo!' A few things like… 'It's-a me! Let's go,' these types of things."
Pratt added, "So we were trying to find a way to put that into the movie, but in a way that would be congruent with a storyline of these working-class American guys from Brooklyn."

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a collaboration between Universal Pictures, the distributor of the movie, Nintendo, the producer of the famous game franchise, and Illumination, the production studio.
By August 2021, it has been announced that the directors for The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, the creators of Teen Titans Go!, and after that, the screenwriter has been attached to the film with Matthew Fogel, the scribe of Minions: The Rise of Gru.

While working underground to fix a water main, Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt; Jurassic World and The LEGO Movie franchises) and brother Luigi (Charlie Day; It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) are transported down a mysterious pipe and wander into a magical new world.
