Matt Groening's The Simpsons is one of the longest-running TV shows to date, so you can imagine everyone's shock when composer Danny Elfman says that the show could be ending by the end of the year.
As it turns out, the statement is FALSE and has been confirmed by Executive Producer Al Jean. Here's his post on Twitter:
If anything, the Disney/Fox deal just gave us more Simpsons, and it's said that the new deal with Disney had given the show an extension. We don't know for how much longer we'll have the Simpsons on air, but we should probably expect them to last for maybe five more years under the Disney banner.
Admittedly a lot of fans believe that The Simpsons has lost the flame that it once had, and you can always expect that with a show that's running for as long as this one has. At some point, it was kind of a relief to see that they were finally ending The Simpsons, but I guess the show has managed to keep itself topical over the years so that it can still remain relevant to today's audiences.
With the acquisition from Disney, I wonder how they plan to move forward with the show. Will they try to capture some of the same magic that the earlier seasons had, or will they try and find a new direction. Seeing as Disney had managed to breathe new life into Star Wars, I'm wondering if they have any idea on how to do the same with one of pop-culture's most beloved animated families.
