The Russo Brothers' Hercules Movie Won't be a Direct Adaptation of the Disney Original

Bless our soul!
The Russos are on a roll.
Making quality adaptations seems to be their current goal…

Sorry, knowing that The Russo Bros are working on a live-action adaptation of Disney's Hercules has a lot of us millennials excited, even with the current track record of these movies. While they make easy money, it's clear that the live-action Disney adaptations are completely devoid of art and original ideas. It doesn't help how a number of them also try and address dumb issues that only Buzzfeed cares about, with Beauty and the Beast being the most blatant example of this.

It seems like Joe and Anthony Russo are a bit aware of how these adaptations are received since they told Collider that they're going to take an MCU approach when it comes to making this movie. That means their version of Disney's Hercules won't be a one-to-one adaptation, much like how an MCU movie doesn't just follow pieces from the comics but borrows bits and pieces from various ones to make a new tale.

"Well, I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it's not compelling for us to do a literal translation. We've already done that with our Marvel films. We don't do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story. We're going to give you a different story. I think we'll do something that's in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table."

Considering how most of the Disney live-action movies have been soulless trash that kills whatever identity their animated adaptations had, this is very good news from The Russos. Hercules is far from perfect but that movie definitely has an identity and we can only hope that this adaptation can find its own one since we don't need more copy/paste movies from Disney.

Disney's Hercules is now available on digital media and Disney+. Stay at home.
